About the role

At Tesco, we believe in the power of spending more time together, face to face, than apart. So, during your working week, you can expect to spend 60% of your time in one of our office locations or local sites and the rest remotely. We also recognise that life looks a little different for each of us. Some people are at the start of their careers, some want the freedom to do the things they love. Others are going through life-changing moments like becoming a carer, nearing retirement, adapting to parenthood, or something else. That’s why at Tesco, we always welcome a conversation about flexible working. So, talk to us throughout your application about how we can support.

Following a promotion, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the External Reporting and Control team! You will deliver timely and accurate periodic and bi-annual financial reporting, and to ensure processes operate efficiently in compliance with agreed controls.

You will be responsible for

  • Supporting the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely Group external reporting in line with IFRS and the Group accounting policies, with responsibility for some of the key primary statements and various components of the financial statements.
  • Being the point of contact for an allocated Business Unit, collaborating with the relevant financial controller and reviewing Business Unit performance each accounting period, including continually improving the process by which functions present and explain periodic results.
  • Supporting the delivery of periodic results including presentation and analysis of accountable areas to the Group Corporate Finance Director and Group Control Director.
  • Engaging with auditors on a routine and adhoc basis, including preparation of accounting papers as required.
  • Delivering projects to support the improvement of the Group's external reporting, including collaborating with the Group technical accounting team on significant non-routine transactions.
  • Supporting the continued focus on Internal Controls over Financial Reporting.

You will need

  • Accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • An audit background and/or experience of working in a control role in a complex and fast paced organisation
  • Strong background in IFRS knowledge and application
  • Understanding of end to end business reporting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build positive relationships quickly with colleagues at all levels
