About the role

At Tesco, we believe in the power of spending more time together, face to face, than apart. So, during your working week, you can expect to spend 60% of your time in one of our office locations or local sites and the rest remotely. We also recognise that life looks a little different for each of us. Some people are at the start of their careers, some want the freedom to do the things they love. Others are going through life-changing moments like becoming a carer, nearing retirement, adapting to parenthood, or something else. That’s why at Tesco, we always welcome a conversation about flexible working. So, talk to us throughout your application about how we can support.

We’re on a mission to be every customer's favourite place to shop, whether in-store or online. Our Insight team plays a vital role in making that happen by understanding what our customers want and need, enabling us to make confident, data-driven decisions. Using advanced tools and technologies, we transform data into real insights, partnering with the wider business to create products and services that truly impact our customers.

We thrive in an inclusive and collaborative environment, where varied perspectives come together to make a positive difference. If you’re passionate about storytelling through data and want to be part of a team that’s focused on delivering significant change, we'd love to hear from you!

In this role you will use expertise in Data Analytics an AI to create deep insights about our customers to support a programme of insight that meets our strategic goals. You will lead the analytics vision and delivery for the Insight Solutions & Capability team

You will be responsible for

  • Taking business problems and framing them, so they can be answered using analytical tools and methods (diagnostics, models, visualisations, segmentations) against the vast amounts of behavioural, financial, sentiment, market and operational data collected by Tesco and our partners across the Group.
  • Developing and delivering the best ways of working, and innovating to continuously improve the team's impact, efficiency and consistency, taking the time to share with and learn from the analytics community in Tesco.
  • Understanding how we use data to solve problems, predict behaviours, explore customer needs, understand performance, forecast future outcomes and find opportunities for Tesco.
  • Balancing short term needs against the longer term benefits of broader team data literacy and increased analytics capability.
  • Anticipating future data, analytics, AI and solution requirements and aligning across the Insight team to ensure these are part of future development roadmap. Pro-actively looking externally and inspiring the team to explore new approaches to keep our thinking fresh.
  • Explaining complex analytics and science approaches clearly so that they are easily understood by non-analysts and I critique others approaches before confidently recommending a way forward.
  • Building partnerships to deliver through other areas of Tesco (including Technology and the team in Bengaluru), to align priorities and develop effective ways of working.

You will need

  • A number of years relevant experience in solving problems through simple and complex analytics - preferably with customer data in a fast-paced environment
  • Use of big data environments and data visualisation tools (preferably Hadoop & Tableau)
  • Strong advanced analytics, AI and statistical modelling background applied across various areas using both simple and complex statistical models - segmentations, forecasting, driver models
  • Working within a product management environment and agile
