The Legal Counsel (“Counsel”) reports to Senior Counsel – Technology, Telecoms & Procurement and provides primary legal support to the Technology and Technology Procurement teams.
The primary responsibility is for:
Technology – working closely with senior Technology stakeholders, program managers and purchasers to ensure the delivery of Technology contracting, licencing and development including statements of Work, agreements and amendments for domestic and international contracts, including Statements of Work relating to cloud services, SaaS, consulting/implementation services, maintenance agreements and renewals, software license agreements and non-disclosure agreements as well as maintaining up to date knowledge of legal issues pertaining to software implementation, licensing, cloud and data.
Procurement- The Procurement team manages all goods not for resale purchased across the Tesco Group. Counsel provides strategic transactional and legal advice to the purchasers on best practice on contracting and RFP’s and works. We have three dedicated procurement lawyers who support critical procurement initiatives.
The role will have a high level of internal and external visibility. A strong level of experience working in a fast paced environment with sound commercial judgement and the ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment is required.
Counsel will be an experienced lawyer with a suitable mix of Technology and commercial experience and a high degree of adaptability to new areas. Experience with GDPR/Cloud/product development would be beneficial.
A firm grasp of commercial issues and contract law is required.
Counsel must be able to identify and deliver innovation and think critically about how legal services are delivered in an agile manner in the context of changing delivery methods within Tesco.
There is a strong requirement to build credibility quickly with Legal and Commercial stakeholders.
