Job Summary

As the Principal Product Manager for Seller Experience, you will work at the heart of the Seller Experience domain, shaping the long-term development roadmap of our retail platform and influence capability growth on Marketplacer - a leading SAAS (Software as a Service) platform.  Using data and insight, you will build the long-term Product strategy and capability sequence to deliver the end-to-end seller experience for Marketplace growth. You will consider the relevant problems and goals that matter most for our Sellers and connect the Seller and Product domain into a common vision that complements and influences the online digital strategy. You will leverage the relevant Tesco retail platforms and existing teams to ensure we enable world class Seller experiences. You will be the main interface with the broader Product, business, and commercial teams, ensuring that the goals and roadmaps are joined up, empowering Product teams to contribute to Marketplace proposition KPIs through scaling Technology with the right underlying capabilities and automation. You will also be accountable for the continuous improvement and evolution of the Product function at Tesco.  Your will contribute as part of the Product leadership team.

You will be responsible for

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures.

  • Drive the Seller experience product vision, strategy, and delivery of complex integration between Seller onboarding, CRM (Customer Relationship Management), seller payouts and commissions, integration with Marketplacer (a third-party Marketplace platform)
  • Build the long-term capability sequence for Marketplace and Tesco roadmaps towards common outcomes and timelines.
  • Be a thought leader in the Seller Experience and contribute to broader discussions, strategy, and vision for retail platforms at Tesco.
  • Foster innovation, scientific discovery, and market analysis with a view of delivering an actionable insight for a long-term development roadmap.
  • Work closely with other Product managers, Product teams and business partners, across multiple business units and domains (Online, stores, Finance etc…) to solve seller and business problems, defining and agreeing outcomes and key results.
  • Work closely with the relevant engineering and data science teams to deliver maximum business value with least effort, always delivering value in slices.
  • Represent the Product organisation in key strategic decisions concerning relevant technology platform and sellers.
  • Use your leadership skills to define and influence outcomes both within and outside of the organisation to achieve the best for Tesco customers, colleagues, and sellers.
  • Determine and define the right mix of OKRs to judge the efficacy and drive material improvements in optimisation capability, whilst collaborating on the right business KPIs that drive value to Tesco’s P&L
  • Make build vs buy decisions in collaboration with senior technology counterparts based on what is best for the Product strategy.
  • Inspire, mentor and coach other Product Managers and Teams improving this discipline and capability at Tesco.
  • Contribute towards hiring/ building a great pool of Product Managers for my/ other functions.

You will need

Experience relevant for this job

  • You have effectively managed a complex portfolio of companywide significance, made decisions around strategy for your product portfolio (product mix, new products, retirement of old products) that led to greater customer stratification, improved profitability or lead to cost savings and generated huge business value for the organization.
  • You acknowledged as an important thought leader in your domain and can influence and innovate through defined specialisms and proven successes.
  • Have proven expertise in seeking out and dealing with ambiguous, unstructured challenges, quick to find opportunities and shape strategies and resources around them as an individual contributor.
  • Took multiple ideas (at least one new product/ idea) from conception to go-live, through standard software product development lifecycle and got measurable success across defined OKRs.
  • Knowledge and experience of product management best practice and methodologies and strong technical acumen
  • Have shown significant improvement in your Product OKRs and helped team set OKRs for new/ other products.
  • Effectively worked with senior stakeholders outside of your immediate product team to market the product and gather feedback and new requirements.
  • Technically competent to influence and understand the solution context and approach and aid engineering in estimating the complexity of work being requested.
  • Leading complex and iterative product developments requiring close integration of multiple product and engineering teams
  • Fostering innovation and driving scientific discovery in parallel to core product development
  • Delivering high impact Data Science developments within complex organisations
  • Productionizing developments and roll out at scale.
  • Have great prioritisation and decision-making skills and have made good decisions/ judgements around business priorities and resource allocation, etc.
