About the role

A key member of the Consumer PR team, helping to elevate Tesco’s reputation and generate positive media coverage. The team focus on value, quality, product (including food, BWS and Home) and seasonal moments but actively explore every additional opportunity to positively reinforce our key messages with media.

Working closely with wider Group Communications team to ensure Tesco maintains its position as number one Share of Voice against competitors.

The Hiring Manager for this vacancy is Victoria Hood

You will be responsible for

  • Responsible for the day to day running of the Product Press Office for Tesco including:
    • Responding to media requests for information, images and product samples in a timely fashion
    • Proactive gifting and media outreach plan
    • Sending journalist information on top deals and offers on a weekly basis
    • Sending invitations and managing RSVPs to media events
    • Managing core media lists
  • Staying close to PR leading edge practice and continually looking for compelling and exciting new ways to land Tesco’s messaging.
  • Helping to manage consumer PR events and activations to agreed budget and timings
  • Writing press materials and undertaking relevant approvals as well as reviewing materials and content created by external suppliers to ensure accuracy and suitability.
  • Setting clear measures and KPIs for activity to ensure effectiveness and demonstrate the impact and efficiency of our activity.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with our PR agencies and other external stakeholder, including working closely with media monitoring agency to report on coverage earned.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with key journalists and media outlets and ensuring regular programme of journalist engagement.
  • Helping to manage budgets.
  • Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence

You will need

Operational skills relevant for this job:

  • Strong communication skills with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills.
  • Energy and enthusiasm!
  • Ability to build positive relationships with journalists.
  • A can-do, collaborative approach, ability to work well with multiple stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working under pressure, across multiple projects and at a fast pace where needed.

Experience relevant for this job:

  • Experience dealing with journalists preferable.
  • Experience managing agencies and working with other external stakeholders.
  • Experience of building internal stakeholder networks.
  • Experience planning projects and events and tracking results.
  • Experience copywriting.
  • Experience managing budgets.
